Caffe Latte, the new WEP hacking technique

WEP

Caffe Latte is a new attack against WEP, the most reknown but less performant security for Wi-Fi networks.

Vivek Ramachandran and Md Sohail Ahmad from AirTight Networks can exploit a laptop when it’s user tries to connect to an access point protected by a WEP key.

This man-in-the-middle attack is transparent for the user as he gets Internet access from the hacker while the latter detects the security key. Even though the latest WEP hacking techniques enable to find the key in a couple of minutes, Ramachandran and Ahmad’s technique takes around 30 minutes, which is still quite fast !

The new hacking technique will be presented this week-end in San Diego during the ToorCon conference.

You’ve got to take care of your own security. Wifi isn’t meant to be fool proof.
